This carefully crafted tour takes you off the beaten path to capture some of Southeast Asia's most pristine and culturally rich landscapes, , where ancient traditions blend seamlessly with breathtaking natural wonders. From traditional villages with soaring peaked roofs to mystical tri-colored volcanic lakes, every destination offers unique photographic opportunities.
Our adventure begins in the untouched island of Sumba, where ancient traditions remain beautifully preserved against a backdrop of pristine nature. Starting from the coastal town of Tambolaka, we'll explore the iconic Kampung Ratenggaro, where towering traditional houses with distinctive high-peaked roofs pierce the tropical sky, creating dramatic silhouettes at dawn and dusk. The crystalline waters of Waikuri Lagoon and the dramatic limestone cliffs of Pantai Mandorak offer countless opportunities to capture the raw beauty of Sumba's shoreline, while the serene Waikacura presents perfect conditions for sunset photography, with its unique rock formations and rolling waves.
In the traditional village of Praijing, we'll immerse ourselves in the rich tapestry of Sumbian culture, documenting the daily lives of local communities who maintain centuries-old customs and traditions. The village's iconic megalithic tombs and traditional houses provide compelling subjects for cultural photography. From here, we journey to the ethereal Walakiri Beach, where twisted mangrove trees create natural sculptures against the changing tides, offering extraordinary opportunities for both sunrise and sunset shoots. The majestic Waimarang waterfall, with its crystal-clear pools, and the sweeping panoramic views from Tanau Hill complete our Sumbian odyssey.
Crossing to Flores, we'll ascend to the highland town of Moni and rise before dawn to photograph the supernatural beauty of Kelimutu's tri-coloured crater lakes as the first light transforms their mysterious waters. In Bajawa, we'll explore traditional tribal villages nestled among volcanic landscapes, where the Ngada people maintain their ancestral ways of life. We'll continue to Ruteng, famous for its distinctive spider-web rice fields, locally known as lingko, which create fascinating geometric patterns best captured from elevated viewpoints. The mysterious Liang Bua Cave, home to the remarkable discovery of Homo floresiensis, provides a fascinating historical dimension to our journey.
Our tour culminates in the bustling port town of Labuan Bajo, gateway to the spectacular Komodo National Park. From here, we'll embark on a boat trip to photograph the legendary Komodo dragons in their natural habitat on both Komodo and Rinca islands. Our cameras will capture these ancient reptiles against a backdrop of savanna-covered hills and pristine beaches. The surrounding waters offer incredible opportunities to photograph some of Indonesia's most spectacular marine scenery, from hidden coves and dramatic rock formations to stunning coral reefs. At the end of the tour we fly to Bali where you can spend a few days relaxing on the beach or head home with memory cards full of stunning images.
