Cambodia - Angkor & Provinces Photo Tour.

Take awesome portraits in the Kingdom of Wonder.

The Tour.

Join Nathan on a photographic adventure through Cambodia, where ancient temples emerge from jungle shadows and traditional life flows along timeless waterways. We begin in Phnom Penh, where we'll capture the gilded spires and ornate rooflines of the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda in the soft morning light. We'll explore the city's artistic quarter near Street 178 and photograph daily life in historic Buddhist temples like Wat Sarawan and Wat Ounalom, where monks go about their daily rituals.

Beyond the capital, we discover communities adapting to rapid change, from families living along bustling railway tracks to the sobering halls of the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, where thoughtful photography helps preserve important historical memories. A short ferry ride takes us to Silk Island, where we step back in time to document traditional silk weaving and rural life along the Mekong River, capturing intimate portraits of artisans at work in the golden afternoon light.

Our journey continues to the ancient temple complex of Sambor Prei Kuk, where centuries-old brick temples emerge from atmospheric forest settings. We then visit the dramatic clifftop temple of Preah Vihear, a UNESCO World Heritage site offering spectacular views across the Cambodian plains. The temple's unique linear design and five distinct sanctuary areas provide compelling perspectives, especially during the late afternoon when sunlight creates dramatic shadows across its ornate carvings.

At Koh Ker, we photograph the commanding seven-tiered pyramid of Prasat Thom and capture the haunting sight of massive strangler figs embracing ancient stones. We continue in Siem Reap, gateway to the legendary temples of Angkor. We'll witness unforgettable sunrises over Angkor Wat, explore the enigmatic faces of the Bayon, and document the ethereal merger of nature and architecture at Ta Prohm, where massive tree roots embrace crumbling temple walls.

Beyond the temples, we'll venture to Kompong Phluk, a remarkable stilted fishing village on Tonle Sap Lake. Here we'll capture daily life as villagers navigate between homes built high above the water, culminating in a mesmerizing sunset shoot as fishing boats return home across Cambodia's great lake. We'll also explore the colonial charm of Battambang, photographing saffron-robed monks collecting alms against French colonial architecture, and document the artistic energy of the Phare Circus, where Cambodia's contemporary culture takes center stage.

Throughout the journey, we focus not just on the grand temples and landscapes, but on the intimate moments of daily life that make Cambodia uniquely photogenic: artisans crafting traditional pottery, families preparing food in local markets, and the timeless rhythms of rural life along the mighty Mekong River.

Please note this tour is graded “moderate” in terms of difficulty. There are a few fairly long walks, the last section of the walk to Preah Vihear temple is uphill for around 100 metres, and there are some uneven steps in various areas of the Angkor temples. You will also need to be comfortable getting on and off small vehicles such as tuk-tuks, as well as the boat that we take from Siem Reap to Battambang. We can safely say, however, that we rarely do more than 10,000 steps each day. You can see a comparison with our other tours here.

Where we stay.

  • A luxury hotel bedroom in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

    Luxury rooms

Nathan has the advantage of having run tours in Cambodia since 2006. During that time, he has seen a quantum improvement in tourist infrastructure, particularly in the quality of hotels around the country. Constantly curious about new openings (and occasionally asked to photograph them for magazines and websites), Nathan has done his due diligence in securing excellent accommodation on this tour.

  • Calm tropical swimming pool at night in Cambodian Hotel

    Tropical pools

Nathan has gone out of his way to find safe, clean and comfortable high-standard hotels and likes to add a dash of excitement in choices that reflect something of the culture and charm of Cambodia. Even in the more remote areas, we are now in a position to offer you very comfortable hotels with modern amenities that are sure to exceed your expectations.

  • Fine dining in a Cambodian hotel

    Fine dining

Cambodia has excellent food. Combining Indian and Thai influences, it's less spicy than either but packed with the same flavours. With salads, spring rolls, soups, curries, and a national dish of fried beef in gravy with a lime, salt and pepper dip, there’s usually something for everyone. We delight in showing you some of Cambodia's top restaurants when in the big cities, which might also have French influences.
